Forum Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Crosscheck Networks, Inc., today announced that it has joined the Cloud Security Alliance to help further the organization’s efforts in the areas of data security, privacy and integrity best practices.

An early sponsor of the Cloud Security Alliance, Forum Systems recognized the fundamental need in providing security assurance within cloud computing environments. As a Cloud Security Alliance Corporate Member, Forum Systems advocates that enterprises must first establish secure XML, SOAP and REST-based transactions before implementing their cloud-based initiatives.

“We understand the criticality in protecting organizations’ data assets. And Federated SOA initiatives – the seamless, secure information exchange among Web services, portals and Web applications – are essential building blocks for, and a pre-requisite to, cloud computing,” said Mamoon Yunus, CEO of Crosscheck Networks. “Establishing Federated SOA ensures the security, privacy and integrity of data, mitigates risk exposure, and allows enterprises to safely migrate to the cloud model. We look forward to collaborating with other members to continue developing best practices for secure cloud computing.”

“With a heritage borne in XML and SOA security, Forum Systems understands that prior to migrating to the cloud, enterprises must establish the necessary trust for safe interactions – with both internal and external partners,” said Jim Reavis, founder of the Cloud Security Alliance. “As such, the company’s Web services security expertise will help guide organizations in achieving the highest levels of information security and integrity, and we look forward to their participation in, and contributions to, the Cloud Security Alliance.”

Last month, the Cloud Security Alliance issued Version 2.1 of its “Security Guidance for Critical Areas of Focus in Cloud Computing.” The Guidance included a significant and comprehensive set of recommendations that enterprises should incorporate within their operational security best practices if they are to leverage cloud computing in a meaningful way. Complementing these recommendations, Forum Systems has published a white paper reviewing the security implications of REST- and SOAP-based communication between consumers and cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) providers. The white paper, titled “Strategies for securing Enterprise-to-Cloud communication,” can be found here.

Forum Systems’ family of software and hardware appliances seamlessly integrates within organizations’ existing environments. Providing the infrastructure for achieving Federated SOA, the company helps enterprises establish the foundation for a secure, efficient and effective cloud posture.

Last month, Forum Systems unveiled an industry-first identity broker hardware appliance. Forum STS provides secure, accelerated and consolidated identity enforcement, controlling privileges without requiring the custom code that can so frequently introduce risk. Performing comprehensive mediation, authentication, and authorization of identity exchange among customer and partner portals, Web applications, and XML-based Web services, Forum Systems is providing businesses with a simplified model for identity management, and the framework for Federated SOA.

And in November, the company introduced the latest version of its flagship Forum Sentry XML Gateway. Offering the industry’s most comprehensive protection against XML- and SOAP-based vulnerabilities, the FIPS- and DoD-certified Forum Systems now provides enterprises and government agencies with the foundation for achieving SOA federation by extending Forum Sentry’s data integration capabilities to self-service portals and Web applications.
